Growing Cambodia's TYPO3 User Group

The Cambodian TYPO3 User Group is dedicated to promoting TYPO3, the world's most used Enterprise Web Content Management System (CMS) in Cambodia. More than 500,000 websites are already created with TYPO3 worldwide, and more than 4,000 extensions are available.

The TYPO3 community is growing steadily in Cambodia. Students and professionals are joining the monthly user group meetings.

In Cambodia, Web Essentials is the only web company that uses TYPO3 but hopefully more and more companies will switch to use this powerful Open Source CMS.

Here is an overview about the last activities of KTUG:

7th Khmer TYPO3 User Group Meeting

On Sunday 24th July 2011, the seventh meeting which brought together Khmer TYPO3 users was held at Web Essentials. The main purpose of the meeting was to impart essential and beneficial information regarding the Content Management System TYPO3 to new users. There were in total 15 participants, consisting of staff and interns from Web Essentials, and students from various universities.

The highlights of the meeting include the following:

• A welcome speech was given by KEO Visay, project manager at Web Essentials and founder of KTUG.
• A presentation by LAY Phalla on Configuring User Right of TYPO3 Backend, an essential skill for all TYPO3 users. Participants were also allowed to carry out practices simultaneously on their own laptops.
• A Q&A session during which participants were able to interact with Phalla and clarify their doubts.
• A practical hands-on session was carried out at the end of the meeting with the supervision of trainers from Web Essentials. The latter were able to provide immediate advice and feedback to all participants.

Overall, participants found the meeting very beneficial as they were able to expand their knowledge and skill sets regarding TYPO3. Also, participants were happy to establish relationships with new TYPO3 users. This establishment of a closely-knitted Khmer TYPO3 user community is the main vision of KEO Visay in introducing the monthly KTUG meetings.

Project: Relaunch of KTUG website

On Saturday 30th July 2011, the KTUG committee had prepared a meeting to organize all people who are interested in the topic of “Khmer TYPO3 Community Website Project Relaunch” at Web Essentials Office. In the beginning of the meeting, KEO Visay, provided a brief introduction about the Cambodian TYPO3 community.

Two teams were formed, Design and Content Editors Teams. The output of the meeting was very impressive. The Design team created the templates for the website. In the Content Editor team, six members participated in contributing their fruitful ideas. With these ideas, this team could draft the website's content.

To conclude, it was a very active meeting. All participants brought their energetic smiles to make the meeting more meaningful. The website will be relaunched in the next two months.
